The formula for being the Queen of the Block is really: Faith plus Works...
You see my “block” is stand-up comedy. Maybe your “block” is teaching, or social work, or family reconciliation or entrepreneurship or being a mother… The “block” can be anything and it is different for every woman. But what you do to be the Queen of that block is what really matters. I’m finding that the formula to being the Queen of the Block is really: faith plus works. The “faith” part is our belief in the vision from the Lord and carrying it out with integrity and Godliness. And the “works” part is when we aren’t waiting for anything to fall out of the sky, but we are literally working hard in excellence, chipping away at our dreams and goals. So ummm for me, the “works” part fell first and then the “faith” was tumbling down quickly behind it.
Here’s what happened: A couple of months ago, I missed a voicemail that was super important. I was so upset with myself and it was a hard lesson to learn. But the reality is, checking voicemail is a simple “work”. It equates to professionalism and responsibility. And as a business owner, I must check and respond to voicemails and emails immediately. That’s excellent business. If I don’t master excellence on all fronts at a low level, then how in the world do I expect to perform in excellence like a Queen at a high level? Therefore, you would expect that I got the point to check my voicemails and emails daily. But nope. That would have been too much like right!
So fast forward to now: Yes. You guessed it, I missed another voicemail. It was left over 2 weeks ago. Put this into perspective: I am in the entertainment business and time moves faster than lightning. No one will wait on you. So when I realized I missed this call over 2 weeks ago, I panicked. Seriously. I had a full-fledged panic attack. Heavy breathing, immediate headache, real tears and instant sweaty arm pits. (Ok, you got me. The tears and sweaty arm pits happen all of the time anyway, but typing it adds to the story, so follow me.) So I’m tripping and I had every terrible thought run through my mind! “You are so stupid Allison! How could you make the same mistake twice?! Look at all of the time that you wasted!! Your opportunity is over!!” Have you ever allowed the enemy to play you like that? Well I did. I was so hard on myself that I missed this call.
After a lot of encouragement from my family and then even more prayer, I settled with: “Do not worry. If the Lord opened this door, NO ONE can close it...” This stuck with me as I realized that NO ONE included, ME! Yea! Even I myself couldn’t close the door that God opened for me! So I sat in my chair and found peace in that revelation. And I told the Lord that I trusted in His grace, His mercy and His plan. And guess what? I made contact with the person who left the message for me. And the door is STILL OPENED!
Now the truth is, the story may not always end like this. In my case, the story could have very well ended with me missing the opportunity. And maybe for you, your story may end with you not getting what you want. However, it will ALWAYS REMAIN TRUE that The Lord, WILL finish the good work that He started in YOU! Therefore, even if you didn’t do things perfectly, or even if you wasted time or even if you didn’t have everything that you needed, THE LORD’S MERCY AND GRACE IS RELENTLESS! So guess what Queen? It is still The Lord’s plan that you become the Queen of your block! So receive His peace and walk in whatever door that He has opened for you OR walk past whatever door that He closed for you, with your head held high like the Queen that you are!
Until next week...
